The 405 photographs display and narrate the photographer’s journey through the pain of a loss. Their production occurred in the shadows of his grief, and the widespread sense of isolation and uncertainty ensuing from the COVID-19 pandemic. Evolving as a collaborative undertaking with Walton-Healey’s friend and mentor Ian McBryde, the associated process led to a re-discovery of trust and inspiration, this being realised in the transformative potential of photography as art. Having re-instilled a sense of pride, purpose and hope, the 405 photographs offer more than a timely reminder of the need within each and every journey to confront the spectre of grief. For Walton-Healey and McBryde, that time and place became known as ‘405.’
