Yarro Yarro: parts unknown is an extended series depicting the iconic and ever-flowing surface(s) of The Yarra River (Birrarung). Distinguished by a preoccupation with pattern and form - particularly as manifest in movement and abstraction - the collection marks the artist-photographer’s bid to transition into a future innately unknowable but shaped most significantly by both his birth-city of Melbourne and extended journey through The NT.

Conceived with the intention of communicating his childhood enchantment with the The Bunyip of Berkeley’s Creek (Penguin, 1978), the collection celebrates discordance and incongruity, particularly as relating to a river once perceived as ‘unclean’ but now undergoing regeneration. In this context, care and attachment (communication) emerge as key aspects of a broader restorative process and aesthetic concern. Yarro Yarro: parts unknown is scheduled for exhibition in the first months of 2025.
